The short version
- Your screenshots, clipboard, comments, file names and window titles never leave your computer.
- The app can send crash reports and anonymous daily usage counts. Both are on by default and both can be turned off.
- This website counts visits without cookies and without storing your IP address.
- There are no accounts, no ads and no data sales.
The WellSnap app
WellSnap works on your computer. Captured images stay in memory, on your clipboard, in a temporary folder for the current set, and in files you save yourself. Nothing is uploaded.
Crash reports go to Sentry, stored in the European Union. A report holds the app and system versions, where in the code the failure happened and the last lines of the technical log. After a sudden crash it can also hold a small memory snapshot, which is deleted after analysis. You can choose Always send, Ask each time or Never in Settings, Privacy.
Anonymous usage statistics go to PostHog in the United States, once a day: how many screenshots were taken, which tools and buttons were used, how fast the editor opened, the app and system versions and the country. Instead of your name, a random install number is used, which you can reset at any time. The full list of counters is public in the app's source code.
Nothing is sent before you finish the welcome screens. Settings, Privacy shows what was sent and lets you turn both off. Builds that you compile yourself from the source send nothing at all.
To check for updates, WellSnap asks GitHub for the latest version. Like any request on the internet, this shows your IP address to GitHub; nothing else is sent with it.
This website
wellsnap.net uses PostHog in cookieless mode: no cookies, no local or session storage for analytics, and visitors are counted with a privacy-preserving hash calculated on PostHog's servers. It records the pages you open, the page that sent you here, your browser, device type and screen size, the country derived from your IP address, and clicks on download buttons. The IP address itself is discarded and not stored.
The site remembers your language choice in your browser's local storage, but only after you pick a language or dismiss the language hint. That value never leaves your browser.
The site is hosted by Timeweb in Russia. Like every web server, it keeps standard access logs (IP address, time, requested page) for security and troubleshooting. We do not use them for analytics.
The editor on the home page runs entirely in your browser. Pictures you paste or open there are not uploaded or stored anywhere.
Your choices
In the app: Settings, Privacy turns crash reports and statistics off, and resets the install number. On this site: any content blocker that blocks PostHog stops the visit counting, and the site keeps working.
